Maverick History
Maverick Eco-Miners was developed in the mid-1970s while, in the middle of Master’s Degree field work, Mark Slatten was asked by Cortez Gold mine to cooperate with them in mapping the contact between continental rocks and limestone in Nevada (Roberts Mountains Thrust).
This contact yielded gold everywhere it was mapped. After graduation, Slatten spent 9 years interpreting seismic data to locate potential giant oil fields in the Artic North Slope, offshore California, the Gulf of Mexico, and offshore Florida.
In 1987, Slatten entered the environmental field in California and oversaw 1,200 projects of every size and caliber. Many small petroleum and mining projects were completed successfully during this period. Slatten’s third career has been completing more than 80 NI 43-101s as a Qualified Person (QP), as recognized by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum (CIM).
Below are listed a few of Slatten’s highlights since the late 1970s, which encompasses a wide spectrum of professional mining services, including:
- Participated in major oil discoveries in Artic North Slope, AK
- Drilled 15,000-foot tests in Artic North Slope, AK
- Drilled a 19,000-foot test off Pensacola, FL
- Developed and expanded the use of soil vapor as an evaluation tool
- Worked for the FBI locating graves using ground penetrating radar (GPR)
- Developed specialized tools for direct-push technology (DPT) drill rigs
- Designed and built a limited-access DPT drilling rig
- Saved Vulcan Mine millions of dollars through waste pile assessment
- Converted haz-waste sites to residential housing through remediation
- Sited water supply wells for the City of Colton, CA
- Completed NI 43-101s for properties in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and the continents of South America and Africa.
- Completed approximately 80 NI 43-101s resulting in more than $2.1 billion in project funding.
